NDA activities

NDA UKIMG_1571 IMG_1709 IMG_1728 IMG_1734 IMG_17677 member UK team including NDA General Secretary Dr Kamal Aryal, Upper GI Surgeon and HExN chair Dr Jeremy Ward, Gynaecologist Dr Patrick Keating and Anaesthetist Dr Andreas Brodbeck, Jon Wells, Leyla Swafe and Alexis Sudlow  have been helping rebuilding Schools in Earthquake affected areas in Gorkha and Dhading and conducting Regional Anaesthesia and Laparoscopic Surgery courses in Nepal.

Their mission started on the 29th November when the team travelled to Darbung Gorkha where a permanent school building is almost completed with support form HExN. Next 2 days they walked along remote villages and localities to reach Arubas, Dhading where another School is being built with support from NDA UK and HFN (Health Foundation Nepal) US.

On their return to Kathmandu they conducted regional anaesthesia course at PHECT Kirtipur Hospital where HExN and Sonosite generously donated an ultrasound machine. They completed their visit after a 3 days Laparoscopic Surgery course at Dhulikhel Hospital  supported generously by HExN.

Member activities – non invasive ventilation workshop

NDA UK Executive committee member Dr Lakshman Paudyal and NDA members Drs Sudhir Lohani and Mohan Devbhandari conducted  a Symposium on ‘Respiratory and Heart Failure’ followed by practical workshop on “Non-invasive Respiratory Support” at Civil Hospital, Kathmandu Nepal on the 31st of October 2015 with support from Health Exchange Nepal (HExN) and Civil Hospital.

Dr Guna Raj Lohani, chief of Curative Division in the Ministry of Health (chief guest of the occasion) and Dr Bimal Thapa, the Director of Civil Hospital were very appreciative of the programme.
Sixty doctors and nurses working for the Ministry of Health, Nepal attended the symposium. Overall feedback was excellent and many of the participants felt that they had obtained the required skills to set up a non-invasive ventilation service in Nepal.  IMG_20151031_112520 IMG_20151031_152708
