Lancaster AGM 2005

(Organising Chairman: Dr M Sharma)

The Nepalese Doctors Association (UK) celebrated its 20th anniversary this year. The 20th AGM was held at the Lancaster University on 29-31st July 2005. It was very well attended by its members, family, friends and guests from abroad.

The highlight of Friday evening was the colourful Morris dance programme performed by the Royal Preston Morris Men. As usual there were attractive dances and songs along with quiz programmes. Children contributed in an impressive way too. The local Organising committee organised a raffle raising £200 for Charity.

Saturday morning’s scientific programme was made interesting with a talk on Diabetes in Nepalese by our own Dr Satyan Rajbhandari, Consultant Diabetologist from Chorley and Dr Ranganath from Liverpool spoke on hyperlipidemia, a very timely topic.

This year’s ladies programme was a very informative and colourful belly dancing talk and demonstration which the ladies enjoyed and practised too.

During the AGM, a new Executive Committee under the Chairmanship of Dr Madan Sharma was unanimously elected.

The Mayor of Lancaster Councillor Joyce Taylor attended as the Chief Guest and Councillor Alan Whittaker, Cabinet member for Schools at Lancashire County Council was the Guest Speaker for the evening. Councillor Whittaker who delighted us all with his interesting speech is also involved in Charity work in Nepal. Chairman Dr KL Shrestha presented a cheque of £350 each to both the guest for their respective charity.

Chairman also presented a certificate of commendation to Mr Mahant Shrestha for his support to the NDA over the years.

Sunday’s picnic was highlighted by a mini cultural programme and a delicious Nepalese cuisine.
