  Annual General Meetings                                                                                                                     

 NDA (UK) conducts its annual conference at the end of July every year which is participated by its members, friends and families. This is an excellent venue to meet friends and families, and know each other. During the conference members and families are actively involved in doing a lot of activities, including scientific presentations, fund collection for charity donation, cultural programme, gala dinner, programmes for kids, other talk programmes etc.

Nepalese Doctors Association (UK), XXI Annual General Meeting was successfully concluded at Watford on 28th to 30th of July 2006, with the participation of more than 80 Nepalese doctors plus their families and guests. Altogether 205 attended the meet.

CULTURAL PROGRAMME

The gathering started on 28th evening with the cultural programme. The cultural programme started with DJ Sapan Rai’s beautiful nepali song. The wonderful Nepali dances by Pramestha Khoju and Indu Thebe reminded us of traditional Nepali folk dance. The programme was made more enjoyable by dances from Shreya Thapa, Anju and Darsana Karki. The raffle ticket sale during the cultural programme generated £200 for the charity.

SCIENTIFIC SESSION

On 29th July morning, Dr Chuda Karki, consultant psychiatrist chaired the scientific session.
Dr  Arun Jha ,consultant psychiatrist who highlighted mental health camp he generously conducted, under the collaboration of NDA(UK) and Janakpur Red cross, at Janakpur, Nepal in January 2006. NDA members wholeheartedly appreciated Dr Jha’s excellent job in trying to build the cooperation between NDA (UK) and Nepali health professionals in working together to help people in Nepal.
Dr Shambhu Acharya, consultant anaesthetist presented an excellent review on “ Acute pain made easy " which was very educational to everyone concerned.
The morning scientific session ended with the very topical and excellent presentation by Dr Nick Perchuri, consultant cardiologist, on “ Management of hypertension and hyperlipidaemia”. This session was followed by AGM.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

This was a memorable AGM in the NDA history because of formal presentations made by the executive members holding various portfolios.
Dr Madan Sharma, NDA chairman, chaired the AGM.
Dr Rajendra Pandey, the NDA general secretary briefed last years’ NDA activities. He particularly stressed on the donation (collected by members) of the amount of £810.00 to “Upachar Sahayog Kosh”, the fund organised by Nepal Medical Association (Nepal) for the treatment of injured victims of Jana Andolan 2062/63 and thanked the members for their kind and generous contribution.
Dr Ramesh Khoju (SpR in Anaesthetics), the Treasurer, presented detailed NDA accounts, as transparent as possible, which has been in confusion within the members for a long period of time. Everyone applauded his valiant effort in recruiting more members and sorting out NDA finances.
Dr Anil Tuladhar (consultant paediatrician), NDA Vice chairman and the website editor, discussed in detail various aspects of the NDA website and the web forum, which have been thoroughly revamped last year since he took charge of the website. Everyone appreciated his untiring efforts on the frequent updates, relevant information provided to various members in different ladder of their career and useful information of general interest.
Dr Shabin Joshi (SpR in neurosurgery), charity co-ordinator presented the excellent history of charity contribution by NDA in the past, and updated on the current charities, supported by NDA. On Dr Joshi's valiant effort, NDA had managed to collect about £2000.00 for charity fund, which will support various charities in future.
Dr Siri Gautam (SpR in paediatrics) briefed development on education section, all of which had been posted on the website and Dr Milan Piya (SpR in diabetology), the editor of NDA Journal highlighted on the newly published NDA journal. It was Dr Piya's maiden but great effort.

GALA DINNER

In the evening, Gala dinner was held in the gracious presence of chief guest Charge d'affaires Mr Dipendra Bista from Nepalese Embassy, London, guest speaker Mayor of Dacorum, Councillor Catherine Appleby. The amount of £300 was donated for Mayor's charity and was handed over to the mayor by Dr Sharma. Dr Aftaz Javed, deputy registrar of Royal College of Psychiatry, highlighted the role of the doctors from the South Asia (currently in the UK) back home, in his after dinner speech. Dr Dhiraj Tripathi announced new achievements made by members and families in various fields last year. Miss Shruti Dhungana delivered the vote of thanks.

FINALE

The AGM concluded on 30th of July with wonderful picnic.
