                                                              Aberdeen AGM 2007

The Nepalese Doctors Association (UK) celebrated its 22nd anniversary this year. The 22nd AGM was held at Hilton Hotel, Aberdeen on 20th-22nd July 2007. It was very well attended by its members, family and friends.

The highlight of Friday evening was entertainment programme performed by members. As usual there were songs, jokes, poems by members. Children contributed in an impressive way too. The local Organising committee, under the initiative of Dr Leela Gautam, organised a raffle raising £150 for Charity.

Saturday morning’s scientific programme was made interesting with a talk on “Hyperbaric Therapy in Aberdeen” by Dr P Srivastava, Consultant in Hyperbaric Therapy, “AMDA Nepal and Maternal & Child Health" by  Dr R Mori, Consultant Paediatrician from NICE and “  Dr Vijendra Baral (SpR in neonatology) presented the charity work done by his team from Southampton at Kanti Children’s Hospital and Ganga lal Heart Centre, Nepal. The charity work done by Dr Baral’s team was very much appreciated by members.

During the AGM, charities done by NDA (UK) in this year were highlighted, mainly charity event organised in Pasupati Bridhrashram (old peoples home) in Kathmandu . The main focus of discussion was in new VISA regulations for IMGs and HSMP visa points not awarded to Nepalese graduates.

 A new Executive Committee under the Chairmanship of Dr Prasanna Gautam was unanimously elected.

In the evening, Gala dinner was held in the gracious presence of chief guest Charge d'affaires Mr J Aryal from Nepalese Embassy, London , guest speaker GMC President Sir Graeme Cato. The amount of £500 was donated for Dr Leela Gautam’s charity “Aberdeen Foyer” and was handed over to Dr Gautam by Dr Madan Sharma.

Dr Madan Sharma presented an appreciation to Dr Raghav Dhital for his award of OBE by His Majesty the Queen. Chairman also presented a certificate of commendation to Master Nikhil Bhandari for his contribution towards designing and maintaining NDA (UK) web site.

Dr P Gautam, the organising chairman, in his speech made aware of “new HSMP regulations faced by Nepalese medical graduates” to Sir Graeme.

Dr Rajendra Pandey announced new achievements made by members and families in various fields last year and also delivered vote of thanks.

Sunday morning Dr Chuda Karki  presented yoga, and participants followed him.Sunday’s picnic was highlighted by a mini cultural programme and a delicious Nepalese cuisine.
