NDA (UK) conducts its annual
conference at the end of July every year which is participated
by its members, friends and families. This is an excellent venue
to meet friends and families, and know each other. During the
conference members and families are actively involved in doing a
lot of activities, including scientific presentations, fund
collection for charity donation, cultural programme, gala
dinner, programmes for kids, other talk programmes etc.

The
Nepalese Doctors Association (UK) celebrated its
26th anniversary this year. The 26th AGM
was held at Future Inn, Plymouth from 29/07/2011 to
31/07/2011. It was very well attended by its
members, families and friends.

The highlight of Friday evening was entertainment
programme performed by families of local asian and
nepali community. Children contributed in an
impressive way too.

Dr Tsilden Sherpa, with an active help of other
friends, organised a raffle, raising £250.00 for the
Charity.

New Executive Committee
members election
Returning
Officer Dr Keshar Lal Shrestha announced unanimously
elected a new executive committee for the period of
next two years under the chairmanship of Dr Bharat
Raj Shrestha. Dr Arun Jha has been elected as vice
chairman while Dr Badri Man Shrestha and Dr Dhiraj
Tripathi have been
re-elected to the post of General Secretary and
Joint Secretary respectively. Dr Siri
Gautam has been elected as Treasurer. Similarly,
newly elected executive committee members include Dr
Ramesh Khoju, Dr Bina Subba, Dr Robin Sherchan and
Immediate Past President Dr Phauda Thebe.

Trip to River Tamar
This year has been memorable for members
and their families who enjoyed by two-hour long boat
ride along Tamar river. The weather was beautiful
and pleasant.

Gala Dinner
In the
evening, Gala dinner was held in the gracious
presence of chief guest Councillor
Lord Mayor Peter Brookshaw and
the guest speaker, the
president of the
Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG),
Dr Anthony Dale Falconer,
A cheque, the amount of £400 was donated to mayor's charity
" Young peoples Sports".

Outgoing chairman, Dr Phauda Thebe, handed over the
chairman’s medallion to his successor Dr Bharat
Shrestha.
Addressing the function, Dr Thebe thanked all the
NDA colleagues for their support during his tenure,
especially in implementing various charity
activities in Nepal and the UK. He expressed hope
that the new executive committee would be able to
continue the glorious tradition of the organisation.
Chief Guest at the function, Councillor Lord Mayor
Peter Brookshaw, lauded contributions made by the
Nepalese doctors in the UK. “You work very hard in
the National Health Service (NHS). You have been
offering great service to this country and people,”
he added. Lady Mayoress Brenda Brookshaw was also
present in the function.
President of the Royal College of Obstetricians and
Gynaecologists (RCOG), Dr Anthony Dale Falconer,
described Nepal as a very critical country known for
its beauty of landscape and enormity of mountains.
Saying that reducing high maternal mortality rate (MMR)
in Nepal was a big challenge, Dr Falconer said RCOG
has set up the ‘Nepal Liaison Group’ to help train
health professionals to improve health care services
in the country. Saying that some 23 percent of
DFID’s current aid of £66 million was going to the
health sector in Nepal, Dr Falconer said, “UK is
very much committed to your country.”
In his message, Nepal’s ambassador to the UK, Dr
Suresh Chandra Chalise, lauded the role being played
by the NDA UK in promoting historic bilateral ties
between Nepal and the UK. He said the expertise
gained by the NDA UK members over the years by
working at the National Health Service (NHS) could
be a great asset for Nepal and the Nepalese. He also
called upon Nepalese doctors working in the UK to
set aside at least a couple of weeks every year to
visit health institutions in Nepal, share their
expertise and help strengthen health outlets in
rural Nepal in whatever way possible. He also
assured his full support and cooperation to the NDA
UK from the Nepali embassy in London in all their
endeavours.
Speaking on the occasion, newly elected Chairman of
the NDA (UK) and chairman of the 26th AGM organising
committee, Dr Bharat Raj Shrestha, thanked all
members of the NDA UK and their families for
travelling to the beautiful city of Plymouth to take
part in the AGM and annual summer get-together. He
urged all to support the new executive committee in
its activities over the next two years.

The evening programme was conducted by general
secretary Dr Badri Man Shrestha ( consultant in
renal transplantation). He also announced
new achievements made by members and families in
various fields last year and Mrs Eva Gautam
delivered vote of thanks. Being
a very busy clinician, Dr
B Shrestha put his hard work on organising the
meeting. His hard work was well appreciated.
