COBHAM, SURREY AGM 2009

The
Nepalese Doctors Association (UK) celebrated its 24th
anniversary this year. The 24th AGM
was held at Hilton Cobham, Surrey from 31/07/2009 to 02/08/2009.
It was very well attended by its members, families and friends.
This year there was a participation of the significant number of
young and enthusiastic doctors.
31/07/2009 (Friday)
The highlight of Friday evening was entertainment programme
performed by members and families. Children contributed in an
impressive way too. Miss Sangeeta Rijal, danced beautifully as
last year. Mr R Sherchan performed songs with his own
composition. As in previous years, Dr Badri M Shrestha sang a
beautiful song. This year's one of the attractions was a nepali
song by Dr Sherpa. Dances by the professional dancers from Nepal
were well appreciated by spectators.

Dr Chuda Karki, with an active help of other friends, organised
a raffle, raising £510.00 for the Charity.

Saturday morning’s scientific programme was made interesting
with core topics and research paper presentations: ( Scientific

1. Mr
Sri Prasad (Consultant Urologist at Darent Valley Hospital) - “ Current
concepts in Urology". ( a core topic)

Mr Prasad highlighted treatment modalities in urology
starting from olden age to modern robotic surgery. He mainly
talked about treatment in 3 areas : cancer, stones and prostate.
2. Dr
A Pradhan (ST3 in Orthopaedics) - “Oncological Outcomes of
Ewing's Sarcoma: Is there a difference between bony & extra-
skeletal Ewing's? (
a retrospective study)

3. Dr
S Lohani (Consultant Respiratory Physician at Darent Valley
Hospital )- " Respiratory
diseases in Nepal (a
core topic)

The scientific session concluded with the presentation of a
report byDr Arun Jha (Consultant Psychiatrist) Contribution
of NDA Psychiatry to Nepal: a progress report.

The Second half of
the morning concluded with the Annual General Meeting and
election of new executive committee members. Discussions were
held on various reports by executive members, and chapter

Dr P Gautam distributed warming blankets to Koshi Flood Victims
on the behalf of NDA (UK) )

In the morning families and friends enjoyed jewellery
presentations held, where as in the afternoon members had a
leisure time to spend.
In the evening, Gala dinner was held in the gracious presence of
chief guest charge de affair's Nepalese Embassy in the UK Mr J
Aryal, NRN (UK) president Mr D Gale and the guest speaker, The
Worshipful Mayor of Elmbridge Cllr. James
Vickers .
A cheque, the amount of £300 was donated to mayor's charity
that provides essential equipment and support for disabled
children.
Vice Chairman Dr A K Jha awarded a cheque of £50.00 to Dr R
Khoju,
for his excellent contributions to the NDA.
The evening programme was conducted by Mr Shabin Joshi (
consultant in neuro-surgery). He also announced
new achievements made by members and families in various fields
last year and Ms Kamala Dhital delivered vote of thanks. Being
a very busy consultant in pathology Dr
P Thebe put his hard work on organising the meeting. His hard
work was well appreciated.

Sunday morning’s talks were moderated by Dr C B Karki
(consultant in Psychiatry).
Mr Prakash Khanal (Nepali Diaspora Volunteering Programme), Dr S
Adikaree (retired consultant in elderly care) ,Dr Smita Khanal (
Paediatrician) and Dr A K Jha (Consultant in psychiatry) shared
their volunteering experience in Nepal. The session was well
