The Nepalese Doctors Association is a socio-professional organisation but
charity has been at its heart since its formation. We can take pride in the
fact that over the years our organisation has been responding to our duty to
others and I would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute all those
members of the NDA who have been involved in this noble task since its
beginning. It is now the responsibility of the younger generation to take
this further. As such any suggestion and any donation however, small would
be most helpful. Apart from the NDA as an organisation, several members have
raised funds on a personal basis for specific charity activities in Nepal.

About Newlife Foundation for Disabled
Children ...
Disabled children have been at
the heart of the charity since 1991. As more babies and
children survive conditions, accidents and infections etc.
more children face enduring disability. Newlife Foundation
cares for all disabled and terminally ill children.
Newlife Foundation puts the
child's needs first in all we do and all we are. On a
daily basis we are the ‘specialists for special children’
in the UK. The best way to understand what we do and how
we help is to understand the sort of help we give when a
call or email arrives from a family making an enquiry, by
tracking what happens next we see the range of help and
activities Newlife regularly provides.......

MENTAL HEALTH RESOURCE CENTRE
Janakpur
Mental Health Project is a 5-year charity project of the NDA (UK) Psychiatry
chapter. Janakpur is one of the 14 administrative zones situated in the
southeast Nepal and has a population of over one million people. There is a
big general hospital in Jankpurdham, the zonal head quarter, as well as a
teaching hospital nearby. These hospitals offer secondary care services in
almost all common specialities except psychiatry. There is not even a
private psychiatrist in the town. The NDA (UK) psychiatry section persuades
SAF-Nepal and the Janki Medical College to join hands in establishing a
Mental Health Care Centre to offer a monthly psychiatry clinic and a Day
Centre. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed on the occasion of a Mental
Health Camp in September 2008. A visiting psychiatrist and a Mental Health
Care In-charge were appointed at a NDA (UK) /SAF-Nepal organised mental
health training workshop for doctors and health workers on 18 January
2009. The proposed mental health services are due to commence on 15 February
2009. The Psychiatry section of the NDA (UK) has offered to support the
Janakpur Mental Health charity by offering at least £1000 per year for 5
years. Dr. Arun Jha has been raising the necessary fund through
Hertfordshire Transcultural Psychiatry Forum.
