FREEMAN HOSPITAL ( NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE , UK ) RENAL

             TRANSPLANT TEAM - IN NEPAL

 

Renal Transplant team from Freeman Hospital , Newcastle upon Tyne , UK visited Nepal between 4th - 9th March 2008.   The main aim of visit was- to assist Nepali counterpart for initiation & establishment of renal transplant programme in Nepal

The team comprised of Prof. D Talbot, Mr D Rix and NDA (UK ) member Mr. Pukar Shrestha.  Prof. David Francis from Melbourne, Australia also joined the team and actively participated in the meetings with Nepalese Diplomats, Hospital executives and Transplant doctors from Nepal. Earlier the team attended the South Asian conference of Nephrologists, Urologists and Transplant Surgeons and presented papers on Renal Transplantation.
 
The team had conducted a series of meetings with Prime Minister GirijaPrasad Koirala, Speaker of Interime Parliament Subhash Nembang, Health minister Giriraj Mani Pokhrel, Supreme court Justice Kalyan Shrestha and MP Radheshyam Adhikari.The team had exciting discussions with Kathmandu valley hospital directors, nephrologists/urologists, about the technical aspects of the transplant programme.
The team also had an informal meeting with UNDP Nepal country director Ms. Anne-Isabelle Degryse-  Blateau and other UN officials.

The programme was co-ordinated by  Mrs Nabina Shrestha from Nepal and Dr. P Shrestha from the UK.
