NDA UK Charity Wing (Registered Charity 1170381)

The charity wing of the NDA UK was born in November 2016 and exists to:

1) Provide relief and assistance to the people of Nepal who are suffering due to natural disasters, by supplying them with medical aid and assistance.

2) Advance the education of healthcare workers, through funding of educational events and the provision of trainers from the UK.

Donations in 2022-23

The following are the donations and support provided by NDAUK for the year April 2022-April 2023:

Health Equipment Support in Nepal:

7. Donation of Laparoscopic Surgery Simulation Kit during RCSEd Laparoscopic Surgery Course in Pokhara, Nepal : Rs 127484.48 (£775)

8. Travel Fellowship Funding during Simulation training for 1 Nepalese doctor (from Bir Hospital; to transfer skills of simulation via the recently established simulation lab) in the UK: Rs 65,798.44 (£400) (via membership funds)

9. Secured Lodging facility as a part of travel fellowship during anesthesia observership training for 1 Nepalese doctor (as a part of Transfer of knowledge and skills to Nepal): Rs 57,902.63 (£352) (via membership funds)

Medical Research and Support:

10. Sarcoma Research, awareness, and support via Sarcoma UK: £500

We contributed to establish the Radheswami Field Hospital in Kathmandu with adequate oxygen supply in 2021.

It continues to provide support to the local government for COVID 19 Management.

Evenjeliya Thebe received a grant from the NDA in 2017

The NDA UK has provided assistance to students who were unable to complete Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) training due to natural disasters.

This project aims to train ANMs who will then work in the remote parts of Nepal. A total of £ 13,766 was awarded to a number of students in December 2017.

Evenjeliya Thebe (pictured left) is just one of those who was awarded a grant. From the Taplejung District in the eastern part of Nepal, she suffered after her family home was destroyed by a landslide in 2017 August and was unable to continue with her education. After a grant from the NDA UK, she was able to enroll atSunsari Technical College, Dharan in August 2018.

A cheque presentation to the Alliance for Disaster Relief, Nepal from the NDA UK.

One of the ways in which the NDA helped to alleviate the impact of natural disasters in 2017 was by supporting the victims of floods and landslides.

The Joint Secretary, Dr Paras Singh, and co-opt member Dr Ang Sherpa, handed over NRs 300,000 (approximately £2,000) to Sumana Shrestha from the Alliance for Disaster Relief, Nepal which was used to provide improved emergency response.

Donation of equipment to a rural birthing centre by NDA UK

The provision of much needed medical equipment to remote birthing centres is an important task which the NDA UK regularly undertakes. In November 2018, a donation of equipment worth £2,129 was made to a Birthing Centre at a health post in Dhanding District , Province 2, Nepal.

Dr Shabin Joshi visited a remote village Health post in Dhading and distributed equipment to enable the safe delivery of babies in March 2019 Dr Ramesh Khoju (pictured left) handed over equipment to another birthing centre in Loharpatti Birthing Centre in Mahottari, The aspiration is to support one birthing centre each in other provinces of Nepal.
