Strengthening Ties and Shared Vision: Highlights from Our Chair’s Prosperous Visit to Nepal

Dr Arati Thapa

Greetings and Namaste,

Recent NDA (UK) Activities

On 20th of January 2026, I signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on behalf of NDA (UK) with Cancer Care Nepal for collaborative research in cervical cancer. The agreement was witnessed by Dr Sashakta Thapa, with senior oncologists Dr Madan Piya, Dr Sandhya Chapagain, and Dr Rashmey Pun Gurung also in attendance. I have also been invited to deliver a talk on NDA (UK) at their conference as Guest of Honour.

I was welcomed by NAMS to discuss future collaborations, exchange of knowledge, and utilisation of the simulation lab, in the presence of Vice Chancellor Dr Bhupendra Basnet, Rector Dr L. Karki, and Head of Medical Education Dr Sandhya Chapagain.

I visited the Simulation Lab, to which NDA was one of the donors. We discussed how this facility could be utilised more fully to reach its true potential.

I also had the privilege of meeting the “God of Eyesight,” Dr Sanduk Ruit, at Tilganga. I observed a live cataract extraction from the viewing room, toured the hospital, and discussed skills transfer initiatives.

Meanwhile, our members continue to dedicate their expertise to Nepal during visit.

The NOTSS course is currently being led by Dr Kamal Aryal, former Chair of NDA (UK).

Our co-opted member, Dr Sashakta Thapa, is also doing excellent work for Down’s syndrome through the Down’s Syndrome Society Nepal.

NDA(UK) has been invited to few other medical institutions in Nepal.

It is a privilege to be part of, and to lead, such a prestigious organisation.

Thank you all for your continued commitment, support, and hard work for NDA (UK).
